I am a 22 year old postgraduate law student from Ireland. On the 14th December 2022, I sat the entrance exam for the Institute of Professional Legal Studies at Queen’s University Belfast. This is the institution in Northern Ireland that those training to be solicitors and barristers receive their instruction.
The entrance exam lasts 8 hours (with a 1 hour break for lunch) and is notoriously difficult. Further, the places at the Institute are limited so everyone is ranked according to their score: only those who obtain a high score are made an offer. Due to Covid, this was the first in-person exam that I had sat in a number of years and as per its reputation, it was extremely difficult and I was very nervous. In the weeks building up to the exam and after, I prayed to Pedro Ballester using the prayer card given to me by a friend.
This week, I received confirmation that I have been made an offer to study at the Institute to allow me to train as a solicitor: this had been my goal. I now look forward to commencing my training contract in September.
Further, I have been praying to Pedro for guidance and clarity with regards to what direction my life should take. I am discerning a vocation as supernumerary and my love for the Work has intensified.
I am certain of the powerful intercession of Pedro Ballester and I owe so much to this young man, someone I never met. I watched the documentary about his life and was moved to tears: it was a very sobering reality check for me.
