A few years ago, I wrote to inform you of a deathbed conversion obtained via Pedro's intercession. Well, perhaps Pedro's is working in this area again, because less than 3 weeks ago a friend of mine told me of a story involving a friend of his who was in his last days.
This friend, ID, who is almost 60 years old, has been wheelchair-bound since a spinal cord injury at the age of 18. His dying friend, K, who was also paraplegic, coincidentally had the same spinal cord injury that ID had in the same year; although both of them broke their necks playing different sports, one rugby, the other hockey. Owing their serendipitously similar life stories, ID and K were really tight buddies.
Earlier in this month of February, K got really sick and had to be admitted to the hospital. His wife and relatives suspected that K was about to move on, so word got to ID, in case he wanted to bid his good friend his final farewell. ID rushed to see his pal, and when he saw K's wife, asked whether K had received the Last Rites. K was baptized in a Catholic Church as a kid but hadn't ever practiced his faith. K's wife told ID that when she asked K if he wanted to receive the anointing he wanted nothing to do with it and brushed it aside.
Disturbed by this, it came up in one of ID’s conversations with me. Without hesitation, I told ID: "Leave it to Pedro. He will get it done." So we engaged Pedro, immediately.
Less than a week later, ID sent me a message saying that K had passed away. In a follow up email, he added this: "K's wife got the Catholic Chaplain at the hospital to give K the Sacrament of the sick on Thursday. No small miracle. Deo gratias."
K passed away less than 48 hours later, on the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes.
